I came across this in a summer edition of USA Weekend.
Do you lack a pro athlete's skills?
Don't worry.
These alternatives are fun and offer new chances at glory.
The article then went on to talk about three new competitions you might try out for. Here are the competitions with my commentary about them.
What! You can't play guitar? Not a problem. You can play Guitar Hero. What! Guitar Hero is too hard? Not a problem. You can play air guitar and maybe you can make your way to the Air Guitar World Championships held in Finland this year.
Heh, heh, heh.
By the way, I am listening to Robben Ford rock out on Robben Ford and the Blue Line. Now that is some fine guitar work, blues-rock.
But if you are interested, check out: Air Guitar Online to get your career launched.
Is baseball too difficult? Not a problem.
You can play softball.
If softball is too difficult, not a problem.
You can play kickball.
In 1998, the playground sport also became the World Adult Kickball Association. Today there are 8,000 teams in 29 states.
If you want to get in the game: check out this site.
Third - Rock, Scissors, Paper.
"Walk in as a nobody and walk out as a champion."
That is the motto for the World Rock Paper Scissors Society.
There are no qualifications for participants... all you have to do is show up. Shades of Woody Allen !!!
If you are the last one standing, you are crowned world champion and awarded $10,000 . . . plus you appear on national TV.
But it is harder than it appears, more like poker where you have to read people and patterns. And the hand coordination, I am sure, is considerable as well.
Feeling frisky with the fingers, then click on this link to go the rock paper scissors site where you can enter a nobody and come out a champion.
By the way, here is a minor theological problem I have. Which came second: paper or scissors?
Just a slightly whimsical look at our culture today.
I hope you will find something where you are the winner.
