Fill in the blank:
I have had more trouble with __________________ than with any other person.
Whose name did you fill in?
Here is D. L. Moody's perspective as he laments about a universal problem.
I have had more trouble with myself than with any other man. Dwight L. Moody
I agree, I have had more trouble with myself than anyone else.
I am my own worst enemy.
The seeds of my destruction are always sown by my self, deep inside… eventually they work their way out.
One of my favorite authors, Kathleen Norris, says: In middle age we are apt to reach the horrifying conclusion that all sorrow, all pain, all passionate regret and loss and bitter disillusionment are self-made.
Writer John Steinbeck said it more bluntly: Man is the only kind of varmint (that) sets his own trap, baits it, then steps in it.
You are your own worst enemy.
The only real question is one of self-awareness.
- How much do you already know this?
- Do you know the specific ways in which you are your own worst enemy?
- Do you know the particular traps your original sin sets for you?
- And then - what are you doing about it?
It is really silly isn't it - to think that we set traps, bait them and then step into them?!?
