You can tell a lot about a person from their personal motto. We might call it a "tag line" for life.
John Calvin had one. On his personal/family emblem, was a hand holding out a heart to God. It had the inscription:
prompte et sincere
promptly and sincerely
The actual emblem is to the right. And a modern rendition is below.
Prompt responses to the leading of the Lord. No looking back once the hand was put to the plow.
Sincerely doing everything with all his strength, faith and trust.
